Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) was granted university status in 1993, but its history dates back to 1875. Glasgow Caledonian University is one of the major universities in Scotland and has a London campus, with about 20,000 students from over 100 nationalities enrolled. It is ranked as one of the top ten modern institutions in the United Kingdom.

Glasgow Caledonian University is well-known for its strong industry ties, and many courses are accredited by professional groups and include work experiences. The University is Scotland's largest source of NHS healthcare graduates and the country's sole university to provide optometry degrees. Glasgow Caledonian University is also well-known for pioneering specialised degrees in areas like as consumer protection, tourism management, and fashion marketing. GCU's business school is the world's first and only to offer triple-accredited degrees in financial services, backed by three of the world's most influential banking and finance professional bodies: the Chartered Banker Institute (the world's oldest banking institute), the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, and the Institute of Operational Risk.

Glasgow Caledonian University is consistently recognised as one of the top ten modern universities in the United Kingdom. According to the UK's Higher Education Statistics Agency, GCU ranks first in Glasgow, second in Scotland, and eleventh in the UK for graduate employability. In the REF 2021, 91% of the University's health research was formally rated as world-leading or internationally good, with more than 80% categorised as outstanding for its effect, a result matched by only one other UK university.
